Overview
As our founding Head of Community, you will be responsible for growing and fostering a community of Futurists to amplify the Fair's mission among the general public, support leaders of mission-aligned companies and organizations, and garner popular support for our work (namely, our media and the Fair). In the first 18 months of this role you will:
- Build a team that will:
- Host a variety of online and in-person events
- Create and maintain a relationship management system for World's Fair partners, aligned organizations, supporters, and more
- Support World's Fair organizational partners
- Develop and leverage content distribution channels (social media, Substack, Youtube, etc.)
- Design and lead the execution of our community engagement strategy, which will include but not be limited to:
- World's Fair STAC (Science, Technology, Art Council)
- World's Fair Legion — a program to capture and engage a community of people who are interested in our media and the Fair
- Programming for specific communities (e.g. K-12 students, professional groups, and more)
- Work closely with the founding team, particularly the Creative Director and Head of Media, to launch various projects to advance our mission and creative vision.
About You
We assume you have the basics covered. You've built teams from scratch, you've hosted dinners and events, you have strong written and verbal communication, you have impeccable project management skills, and you're adaptable to the dynamic needs of a fast-moving organization. Most importantly, you're great with people and contribute to an organizational culture of collaboration, transparency, optimism, experimentation, and delivery of our mission.
For this role, we specifically want to see three things:
Experience
- You have a demonstrated track record of successfully building welcoming, healthy communities with broad reach and high levels of engagement over long periods of time
- You've organized and hosted a variety of events (such as dinners, virtual events, themed experiences, conferences, and more) to activate, engage, and delight communities
- You've managed events and communities of different sizes (from groups <10 to >1000)
- You've worked with major media outlets and managed a variety of social media and communications channels
- You've developed partnerships and relationships across sectors, including media, startups, donors, and the public sector
- You've successfully recruited high-profile individuals or organizations into your communities
